![]() The biggest issue for me with digital pianos (reasonably priced slabs and consoles) when comparing to acoustics is:Ī) the action - there is a short list of digital pianos that have actions that compare with a proper grand/baby grand piano. I'm not sure where I'm going with this just wanted to mention it because it was so unexpected. ![]() But this was the first time I've played a rather good grand that disappointed me because it wasn't as good as something digital. Of course I've played countless crappy acoustic pianos which, given the choice, I'd have happily ditched in favor of a '90s Clavinova provided it was in good working order. I was fighting to get the same level of responsiveness from it that I had been getting from an upright driving a bunch of 0s and 1s. I've played it numerous times before and enjoyed it. Then last night I did a live recording at a venue with a perfectly nice 6' Essex baby grand not a high-end instrument, but definitely a good one, under 5 years old, well-maintained and in tune. ![]() Since then I've put in more practice time than I have in ages, just because it's so inspiring to play. When I played it from my (MIDI'd, silenced) Yamaha upright, it made me forget that I was playing a fake piano instead of an incredibly nice real one. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. About a week ago I got the VI Labs Ravenscroft plugin.
